ΑΡΓΟΣ - Residence of General Dimitris Tsokris
The site was built in 1827 in the middle of a large garden with ancillary spaces, ovens and animal pens, as the residence of General Dimitris Tsokris. Toskris was a leading military figure in 1821 and later an MP for Argos. He was born in Argos in 1796 and died in 1875. The ground floor was originally used as storage space and the first floor as the main residence. It is one of the most beautiful neoclassical buildings in the area. Two parallel wings are connected to each other by a common reception area where there is a wooden stairway. The frieze which runs around the outside of the building is decorated by a Greek border. Underneath the balcony, on the ground floor, to the left and right there are two ancient reliefs. The interior decoration is simple with geometric themes, and a large part of the 19th century furniture has remained.
